Unique Branding Through Fashion in Sports
What It Is: The latest red carpet to hit feeds isn’t at some fancy gala but in the tunnel entrance to stadiums. Naturally, fashion and sports go together; however, as of late, we’ve seen an exponential rise in individual athletes' style being highlighted. With accounts like LeagueFits and MLBFits garnering massive followings, athletes are now encouraged to show off their personality and express themselves through clothing. A prime example of this is Jazz Chisholm on the New York Yankees who breaks decades long tradition wearing loud colorful uniform pieces featuring his own interests like anime; it also is interesting to note that the Yankees backtracked on their 48 year old facial hair policy this year, allowing each player to curate their own unique look.
Brand Takeaway: The largest takeaway for brands here is the prioritization of individual, unique branding instead of fitting into a sea of sameness. In the same way that these athletes stand out from the crowd as they enter stadiums, we want our posts to stand out in the feed. Though a tunnel walk may not seem immediately applicable to the launch of your new product, try to adopt this ideology and apply it to the creation of your content when ideating for your brand. It’s always the never-before-seen scroll-stopping post that makes noise rather than a simple copy-and-paste meme format.
