My Teenage Dirtbag Photo
What it is: A TikTok trend originating from the 90s hit "Teenage Dirtbag" has prompted users to share their "teenage dirtbag" photos.. Of course, not everybody was a true ~dirtbag~ as a teen, so the trend has led to a larger throwback moment across social media platforms.
How brands can jump in: While brands can't use the sound itself, nostalgia remains a powerful force behind this trend. Share a brand throwback photo (or photoshop a "throwback") including the phrase "teenage dirtbag" and your audience will be delighted.

Urgency level: HOT! This trend has been all over TikTok and has started to spill into Twitter. Get on it now.

What it is: It's easy to compare the rise of BeReal to Instagram, but a recent article from Polygon thinks that's missing the point-- "it’s not the act of sharing a photo that’s important; it’s the synchronicity and the fact it’s largely private." Popular apps from this year like BeReal and Wordle create a personal daily in-app ritual, something users seem increasingly interested in.
What we can learn: The intimate digital relationships users form on BeReal is completely counter to those formed on more influencer-driven platforms like Instagram and TikTok. This shift in user behavior signals that a more personal internet is rising. Brands should keep that in mind as we continue to adapt along with internet behavior.
