What it is: On June 10th, singer/songwriter Grimes (@Grimezsz) tweeted: “Changed my body from the way God made it, It reflects my altered mind.” with an image of her leg tattoo. This cringy tweet has taken the internet by storm with over 15K quote RTs alone. It even has its own Know Your Meme page. People are sharing their own examples of strange, funny, or bad tattoos with the same copy, parodying the singer’s dramatic tweet.
How brands can jump in: If your brand is okay being a little snarky, could you photoshop your brand’s product like a tattoo, like Greggs did? Or, maybe your brand persona character has a secret tattoo they want to share with the world? Whatever you do, this is a lighthearted and funny trend, so treat it as such. Also, please remember to be mindful of IP, as tattoos are IP of the artists.
Leave out the mention of "God" for brand safety and play up the idea of a bad tattoo with just "it reflects my altered mind".
