#ENGIRN: Twitter users are redirecting World Cup 2022 attention toward the Javanrud massacres in Iran. Users are posting photos in remembrance of lost lives and speaking out against supporting the IRN in today's game with England.
What brands should know: This is a highly sensitive topic. If possible, distance yourself from World Cup discussions today to avoid backlash from users. Any support for IRN or ENG could raise suspicions of brand affiliations with the Islamic Republic Regime.
#VictoryMonday: Sports fans are celebrating wins from the weekend.
What brands can consider: Here's a sports trend you can jump in on. If your brand kept up with football over the weekend, join users in celebrating the big wins. Remember to avoid naming any team or player specifically.
#Hive: New(er) social platform, Hive, is getting a lot of praise from Twitter users.
What brands should know: Ongoing Twitter dilemmas are pushing users to seek a connection elsewhere. Brands could the conversation by gauging their audience's interest in other platforms via polls and q&a.

new social platforms on the rise that you should know about
What it is: In light of Twitter's latest challenges, new (and old) social platforms are joining the conversation. This is an opportunity for brands to assess next steps, including mining territory on Tumblr, Mastodon, or Hive.
Tumblr (est. 2007) has been a safe space for brands since its launch. There are low barriers to creating a branded blog, with the same opportunities for engagement and reach as Twitter/Instagram.
Mastodon (est. 2016) is a user-focused non-profit, with a decentralized server system. Though an alternative to Twitter, this platform reinforces an ad-free environment; great for organic 1:1 interactions of substance where impressions aren't the objective. This is not ideal for brands looking to grow a large following through trend hopping or boosted content.
Hive (est. 2019) leads with the best features of Instagram (chronological feed) and gives each user the ability to personalize their profile with music and theme colors (RIP myspace) but may force brands to create a 3-Dimensional personality/voice to keep users engaged. Big opportunity for brands to establish themselves and evolve with the demands of the platform is if it gains traction with Twitter refugees.
