#FlagDay: Today is Flag Day recognizing the day the US' Stars and Stripes were officially recognized as our country's flag.
This is for awareness. As the flag continues to be politicized by extremist groups as a symbol of conservatism, it's best not to enter conversation around the flag specifically. If you have a red, white, and blue iteration of your product, it may be appropriate to show patriotism.
President Trump's Birthday: Hot off his arrest yesterday is the former President's 77th birthday. Some fans are celebrating him, while other users are mocking him spending his birthday under arrest.
As you are likely aware, this conversation is extremely hostile and not to be entered from a brand.
Starbucks: The company is being accused by its union of taking down and banning all Pride decorations in their stores. Starbucks is denying the claim, but conservatives are seeing this as a win, while members of the LGBTQ+ and ally communities are upset that another brand may have bowed to pressure from hate groups.
This is another example of a brand's reaction to the recent negativity around Pride Month. It's also another example of the LGBTQ+ community feeling let down by corporations who have positioned themselves as strong partners and allys in the past.
I Wouldn't Marry Me Either…
What it is: Taylor Swift recently released a new song called "You're Losing Me" and the line "I wouldn't marry me either..." is really resonating with fans. Of course it instantly turned into memes with characters on Twitter. The trend is put to pop culture characters who either love or hate each other next to each other. Then you caption one side with "I wouldn't marry me either..." and from there you've got a few options. The more serious Swifties are referencing another one of her songs by making the response "I'd marry you with paper rings" and others are just making it a joke by having the other quote be "ok."
How brands can jump in: Do you have a mascot or a product that fans are absolutely in love with? Now's your chance to showcase how the fans are obsessed with it. Got a rival, then you certainly wouldn't marry them either, so make it known in a playful way!
