What it is: Yesterday marked the beginning of Pride Month, which on one hand filled our feeds with friends supporting and celebrating being true to yourself, and on the other hand had brands rainbowfying their logos. Gen Z sees right through the rainbow washing and has started to make fun of the typical copy they see from brands and influencers during Pride Month.
What brands should consider: To avoid being called out for being inauthentic, if your brand decides to create content in support of Pride Month:
Make sure the brand is also making a significant financial donation to an LGBTQ+ non-profit and/or is actively helping the community.
Don't just post Pride-related content and change your logo to rainbow in the month of June, be supportive year-round.
Ensure your brand isn't donating to politicians who actively work against the LGBTQ+ community.
Avoid having your influencers use the "that's why this Pride Month I've partnered with..." copy.
