The TikTok Font Redesign
What it is: At the beginning of the month TikTok rolled out a new font throughout the platform and users were not thrilled. Although the change was subtle, it was noticeable enough that fans took notice and were questioning if the font had always looked like that and they just never noticed it or if it's new. It's the latest thing in a slew of minor tweaks to platforms that are making users voice that not everything needs to be changed, as this font update felt more cosmetic than functional.
What brands should know and how they can jump in: Large reactions to subtle changes like this can teach us that our audience is greatly aware of every detail, and since were making these changes in the same space where our audience is giving their opinion the feedback we as brands receive becomes much more personal and direct. This should be considered when making even the smallest changes to household brands, as social is always where fans will take to. Get ahead of the conversation by communicating these changes versus waiting for your audience to find out. You can chime into this conversation now by talking about why you do/don’t like TikTok's change, or offer up alternative by sharing your own font.
Examples: 1, 2, 3
Urgency level: If you want to engage in the convo, jump on chatting up this font choice before the spotlight is stolen by the next subtle but not-so-subtle platform update.
