#MayTheFourth/#MayTheFourthBeWithYou: That’s right, folks - Star Wars Day 2023 has finally arrived! Star Wars fans are sharing all of their favorite characters, moments, and quotes on social.
How brands can jump in: Is your brand a space fan? Really into classic movies? Or maybe a wee bit nerdy? Please be mindful of IP (Disney+ is promoting #MayThe4thBeWithYou), but today would be a good day to dust off those space/movie jokes and jump in on the fun convo.
#NationalDayOfPrayer: People are taking to Twitter to share their prayers.
What brands should be aware of: We would not recommend jumping on this hashtag today. Be mindful if you have any content going out that references “prayer” or spirituality.
#SupremeCourt: Seeing a lot of news swirling this morning around activity within the Supreme Court.
How brands can jump in: We do not recommend engaging with this, but please do be mindful of this conversation today on Twitter and double check if you have anything going live today that could be interpreted as Supreme Court-related.

These two would have the craziest beef
What it is: In a humorous and somewhat chaotic melding of popular culture, folks are taking to social media to share two TV or movie characters who would “have the craziest beef.” Of course, “beef” translates into tension, fighting, disagreement. It’s a chance to ignore time & space and stir up tension with unlikely pairings *while being mindful of IP!*
How brands can jump in: Time to air out those fake feuds! Who (or what) does your brand “have beef” with? Maybe it’s your character/persona/mascot’s least favorite thing? Or maybe it’s the problem your brand’s product solves? Either way, this is a fun opportunity to show off your brand’s value/relevance with some good ol’ fashion juxtaposition.

Sustainability & Reuse in Fashion
What it is: It used to be a fashion faux-paux to wear hand-me-downs, or god-forbid the same outfit twice – but from the Met Gala to weddings to consumer products, we’ve seen a shift away from this mindset. Instead, consumers are prioritizing sustainable (and dare I say, interesting) solutions – primarily by reducing and reusing. As the Wall Street Journal wrote last week, It’s OK to Spend $12.50 on a Wedding Dress Now. At the Met Gala, we’re seeing folks wear outfits made out of recycled materials - or that they (or others) have worn before. When it comes to fashion, folks are looking for creative ways to show up and show off!
What we can learn: Zooming out further, this is not a surprising trend. We are facing the existential threat of climate change, fueled in many ways by excess. Simultaneously, we are seeing a resurgence of Y2K aesthetics and prioritization of “authenticity”. Therefore, it makes sense that the two would converge in this way, on the stage of fashion, to give rise to sustainability & reuse. Notably, this is not simply a reuse, but rather a subversion of the old to make new again. Brands could think about ways they could authentically subvert the expected to follow suit.

🍌I can’t tell if I’m in awe or just confused with this guy who ate a 120,000 banana-art-piece. Either way, hangry = not fun.
🍳 I’ve been treating my cast iron pan all wrong, hbu?
🦐 Did you know that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is home to a fascinating assortment of coastal species? I sure didn’t.
