The Midterm Elections
It's all over our minds and it's all over social. The internet is talking about the key races in yesterday's midterm elections. This election was especially important as it typically decides the power balance in the House of Representatives and the Senate at the federal level between parties, but the stakes this year felt higher as issues like inflation, abortion, crime, gun control were key talking points for candidates. We also saw races for key positions in state governments including 36 gubernatorial races. Several races, especially in battleground states, are in dead heats and are still too close to call. With heightened attention on its comparison to the aftermath of the 2020 General Election, Boards of Election all over the country are taking careful measures to ensure election integrity. Here are some of the Key races we watched and are continuing to watch:
John Fetterman (D) defeating Mehmet Oz (R) in Pennsylvania.
Florida elected the first Gen Z member of Congress, Maxwell Frost (D).
Georgia Senate race is likely headed toward a runoff election.
Chuck Grassley (R) has won the Senate seat for Iowa, a six year team, at the age of 89. This win is sparking conversation on age limits for certain races.
What brands should consider: Despite Election Day being one day, the effects are felt far before and far after on social. Some races are still being counted and can change the lives of those constituents for at least the next few years. Be mindful when posting today and monitor the conversation online for any watch outs.
