The Butter Board
What it is:It's exactly what it sounds like! Created by TikTok creator @Justine_snacks, butter boards are trending on TikTok as a fun (and not to mention cheaper) alternative to the charcuterie board. Simply spread butter on a board and add various toppings to dip bread into! The popularity of this trend has led to parody versions emerging from brands and TikTok users.
How brands can jump in: You can approach this one from a few different angles! If your product would actually go well with a butter board, show how it could be incorporated. OR, you could take the sillier route with a parody version of the butter board involving your product.
Examples: 1, 2, 3
Urgency level: Medium! This has been trending for a few weeks but the new variations of boards are starting to take off now.
What it is: This week, TikTok launched its own version of BeReal in its platform called "TikTok Now." Just like BeReal, TikTok Now asks users to take a picture with the front and back part of their camera at a random time of the day.
What we can learn: We've talked a lot about BeReal pushing apps like Instagram and TikTok to be more authentic, but this is the first major app to roll out a full copy cat feature within its platform in attempt to poach users. This is something to keep an eye on, as we saw a similar thing happen with Stories back in 2017, which originated on Snapchat. That battle ultimately concluded with Instagram Stories taking off as a core component of the user and brand experience on the platform. BeReal's unique set up has yet to fully pierce brand marketing, but an embedded feature within a platform where brands already have a following could really move the needle here.
