Barbie-inspired Girlhood TikTok Videos
What it is: [POTENIAL BARBIE SPOILERS AHEAD] TikTok users are taking inspiration from the emotional climax of the Barbie movie where Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?" scores over a montage of real life moments of womenhood. Fans have given it a personal spin on TikTok, sharing videos of their own childhood/womanhood with the same song in the background. This trend is the latest iteration of the summer of Barbie and the larger cultural conversations about girlhood that the film has sparked.
What brands can learn: Unlike past Barbie conversations happening on social that solely focused on the Barbie-aesthetic, this trend is going full sentimental. It shows that Gen Z and millennials continue to seek content that connects them to their inner child. They crave content that inspires them to look back into their childhoods or ahead at their futures. It heals them and allows them to show their authentic selves to the world. As a brand, think about how your content is going beyond showing your product but what that product means to your audience and how the way you show it on social can further bond you and those that follow you.
