Sephora Kids
What it is: There have been several articles pointing out Gen Alpha’s love for adult skincare brands, like Drunk Elephant, and the “baby beauty” influencer trend that took over social media and the kids are heading straight to Sephora to stock up. While we grew up with places like Claires and Justice— stores that specifically marketed towards pre-teens and tweens— Gen Alpha has no place to land, so they are finding themselves intertwined in a adult culture far too early in their life.
What brands can learn: With brands getting backlash for irresponsible marketing, it is important that we go back to the drawing table and asses what marketing should look like for pre teens. As social media is becoming more and more ingrained in early childhood, it falls on us as brands to be aware of what is being published. We may not be able to control the fascination that these 10 year olds have with skincare, but we can control what comes out of our marketing channels and our target (much older) audience.
