Gas Station Core

What it is: According to the Wall Street Journal, the hottest shop in America is your local gas station. Each gas station has its own distinct stock of gas station sunglasses, Chat-GPT adjacent slogan t-shirts, and patriotic swag. Those Bass Pro Shops hats you see everywhere? Gas station core. Fashion lovers have exhausted Bloomingdales, Amazon, and over-priced vintage shops. They're now turning their road trips into shopping sprees when they stop for gas.
What brands can learn: The joy of buying kitschy items while pumping gas says a lot about the monotony of shopping these days. In many ways, shopping has become an uninspired actitivity. You see an influencer post an Amazon dupe of a trendy item, you click their link in bio to purchase it, and it arrives the next day. Committed shoppers and fashion lovers know that individual style comes from putting in the effort. Gas station core is one of many trends, among the likes of Depop and custom thrift bundles, that values idiosyncrasy.
