Gen Z Is Delulu
What it is: If you’re active on social media, you’ve most likely seen more than one piece of content centered around the words “delusional” or “delulu”. The subject has over 2.9 billion views on TikTok, as Gen Z continues to redefined the meaning of the word and take ownership of it. Unlike older generations who focus more on why things can’t happen or the logistics of a plan, Gen Z has turned being delusional into a powerful manifestation or a way of escaping the world.
What brands can learn: Economic instability, natural disasters, legislative violence and many other harsh realities have led for younger generations to create their own versions of life. Social media has taught Gen Z that there is no realistic path to success and that online anyone can be whoever they want. This generation has applied both learnings into the real world. As brands launch new campaigns or products or talk directly to younger generations online, it’s important to keep in mind that consumers are in dire need of escaping the world as a way to cope.
