Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Barbie: How The Buying Power of Women is Helping Fix The Economy
What it is: This summer, millions of people across generations have gone to lengthy extents and shelled out lots of money to experience The Eras Tour, The Renaissance Tour, and the Barbie Movie. These women-powered experiences have generated billions of dollars across U.S. local economies and internationally, with Beyonce being blamed for boosting inflation in Stockholm, Sweden. This is the first time we're seeing three women-led productions helping keep recession fears at bay through the power of the emotional connection of fandom.
What brands can learn: We are seeing that women's spending power is not to be underestimated, and it is important to recognize that brands don’t always necessarily target women or speak to them in a way that resonates. Women tend to respond to authenticity and empowerment, and the positive messaging of these summer spectacles have encouraged people to take flights, book hotels, support local businesses, and more because of how much the experience means to them. Brands should continue to think about how they show up for different demographics.
