#bluemoon: Tonight August 30th we are getting a rare Super Blue Moon. Despite the name, Blue Moons are not actually blue in color. The name refers to the appearance of a second full moon in a single month. The last blue moon was visible in 2021 the next one won't be until 2037, so don't forget to go outside and look up!
Gabon: A military coup in Gabon was successfully carried out in the early hours of Wednesday morning. A group of about a dozen military officials held a press conference this morning stating that the results of a recent election were being overturned, dissolved all state institutions, and closed the country's borders. Civilians in the region have been shown on circulating media to be celebrating, thanking soldiers, and offering them beer.
How's the job search going?
What it is: *Turns on Do Not Disturb* This evergreen format about avoiding responsibilities features a screenshot of a person's current activity on their phone and an intrusive text from a parent, typically the dad. The on-screen activity is typically watching, or posting about, some sort of niche media, and the text from dad ("How's the job search going?") is a reminder to be doing, well, not that. Searching for a job might technically be more responsible, but watching random comfort clips is really what sustains us at the end of the day, y'know? Sorry dad.
What brands can learn: Gen Z is self aware, and not afraid to poke fun at themselves for not necessarily prioritizing the same things their parents did. “Protecting your peace” is a strong sentiment amongst the younger generation, and this extends even into areas where the previous expectation was to simply work. No way in for brands here, but this mindset amongst younger consumers is important to take into account when posting.
