What it is: A trend has taken over TikTok & Instagram that feels universally relatable all while being hyperspecific. Enter the "We're [insert sub group], we're gonna [insert behavior or experience]" all explained while walking & talking. Iterations online have seen the likes of "We're married," "We're Italian," "We're, Mexican," & "We're best friends" to name a few. At its core, this format is an opportunity for individuals to speak to their identity and/or relationships in a way that only those *who know* understand. No matter how niche, popular videos all speak to universal truths & unique cultural nuances viewers resonate with.
What brands can learn: What's great about the "We're _____" trend is its applicability to every scenario. Brands can easily join in on the conversation all while making it their own. The key is highlighting shared traits among their consumers, leaning into sarcasm & comedic, somewhat controversial takes. This doesn't always have to be the case, but most videos with success have won for their blatant honesty & self-aware dialogue. Wanna speak to your fans/stans? Your distinct audience? Now's the time to do so.
