Twitter Rate Limits
What it is: On Saturday, July 1, Elon Musk announced that all Twitter users are now limited to a number of tweets they can read per day. Limits are dependent on the newness of the account and verification status. According to @Twitter, these "temporary" rate limits were put in place to prevent bots from data scraping and AI model development. Users took to the feed to express polarizing views on platform usage, which led to way more Tweets than the designated 600 rate limit.
What brands can learn: The largest community of users impacted are existing unverified accounts, who seem to be reaching their read limit early in the day. Despite valid frustrations, hype about this usage limitation has monopolized feeds, with users tweeting memes about their misfortunes. Some users are securing profiles on platforms like BlueSky, Hive, and Mastadon in belief that Twitter's best days are behind them. Brand presence on twitter isn't heavily impacted as of now, but maintaining awareness of usage updates is vital for how we move forward.
