What it is: Virtual Dining Concepts, LLC (VDC), a key player in the virtual dining industry, announces the extension of its Creator's Kitchen As Seen On TikTok brand into hundreds of new markets. Creators’ Kitchen is a virtual restaurant that capitalizes on viral TikTok recipes and the partnership was initally revealed towards the end of 2021. The platform allows users to order trending dishes for pickup or delivery, resembling GrubHub, providing an option for those who prefer not to prepare the viral TikTok recipes themselves. Creators' Kitchen features a menu with TikTok-famous Italian dishes and showcases viral recipe videos, descriptions, and photos. The individuals recognized for these viral dishes collaborate with Virtual Dining Concepts, the entity responsible for Creators’ Kitchen and various other ghost kitchen ventures. In this partnership, they participate in a share of the profits, effectively transforming their recipes into commodities. Furthermore, other TikTok creators have the opportunity to become ambassadors. Additionally, they can apply to have their own recipes featured on the website's menu. The company hinted that menu items will be regularly updated to stay in line with the latest trends. Since Virtual Dining Concepts doesn't have physical locations, it provides restaurants nationwide the chance to join, become market partners, and engage in the latest food trends.
What brands can learn: Brands can learn from Creators’ Kitchen, which addresses the surge in popularity of FoodTok, offering a solution where TikTok's trending food items can be conveniently delivered to your doorstep without any preparation. However, caution should be exercised when taking something as massive as FoodTok and turning it into a commercialized option for consumers. Trust is important here and ghost kitchens have a history of mistrust as consumers don’t actually know who is cooking their food. Additionally, the speed at which trending food changes on TikTok can pose issues for these kitchens who have a longer lead time to putting out the popular items for consumption. If they wait too long the trend has passed but if they try to speed up the process they risk health and safety concerns. Constantly scaling to meet viral demand can cause quality control issues and lawsuits like this one with Mr. Beast.
