For the traditionalists these activities may include apple picking, leaf peeping, hay rides, maybe wandering a pumpkin patch or two, however over the years people have started to align their television habits along with the seasons, and have chosen to rewatch specific programming to get them in the seasonal mood. Gilmore Girls and Gossip Girl, two iconic shows from the hayday of The CW have become hallmarks of the Fall season. With the cozy small-town New England vibes that Stars Hollow provides in Gilmore Girls paired with the iconic lives of New York City elite prep school teens and the drama that unfolds at the beginning of the academic year in Gossip Girl (along with the iconic Thanksgiving episodes), the internet is abuzz while reliving their favorite moments from these shows that define the season.
What brands can learn: While the internet is constantly changing and seeking out new and exciting messages, it is important for brands to remember that certain audience moods can be foretold and there is value to tugging on the heartstrings of those who seek familiarity. Look ahead at what mood interceptions can be found between your brand and the time of year as well as in pop culture (ex: Gilmore Girls and coffee) and think about how your brand is being perceived by the average consumer to see if there is a natural tie in. There isn't always a natural connection and it is best not to force it, but if you are able to find a creative way in, do not hold back!
