Mama, kudos for saying that. for spilling
What it is: The catchphrase originated from the newest season of RuPaul's Drag Race. In the episode, contestant Q shared their HIV-positive status. In response, Plane Jane commended them, saying, "Mama, kudos for saying that. For spilling." This awkward reply about such a serious topic quickly sparked discussions among fans of the show.
On the same day, a fan shared an image from the episode on the show's subreddit, captioning it with, "Plane's response is so unserious 🤣," garnering over 2,500 upvotes and 184 comments.By Sunday, the saying had gained traction on X, evolving into a popular meme.
What brands can learn: It’s important to be tapped into pop culture, and understand memes that originate from it. Social users approach these trending moments with a lightheartedness that’s entertaining as a consumer, but it’s important to remember that not every trend is brand safe. This one in particular concerns an HIV diagnosis, which brands should steer clear of making light of by activating. As a brand, it’s vital to always research the origin of a meme to ensure it’s coming from a brand-safe place.
