They're Defrosting
What it is: Surprise! It's August! Time is clearly just a construct, and people are eagerly anticipating the best things soon to come in the second half of the year by stating that they are "defrosting." A long-running joke on social originally surrounding the Queen of Christmas, Mariah Carey, "defrosting" signals the incoming reemergence of popular internet topics tied to seasonal changes — think fall comfort shows and beverages defrosting in August and holiday music defrosting in October. With countless daily stressors, many people are wanting their week to simply speed up, and seasonal goodies are a welcome motivator to keep going and finish out the year in one piece.
What brands can learn: This one is applicable to any brand that has seasonal products tied to fall or winter. Does your brand have a pumpkin spice-flavored food item (or can a faux pumpkin flavor be made)? Do your followers love a cold weather comfort show or album? If so, jump in! "They're defrosting" is the standard social copy used with a simple image of a (defrosting) subject, sometimes encased in ice — and different variations of the joke work with or without the ice. Just like Halloween decor hitting shelves in early August, embrace the absurdity of how soon your subject is defrosting — it'll help the joke land and keep you on followers' minds for months to come.
