Blind TikTok Ranking Filters
What it is: While March Madness is months behind us, ranking filters on TikTok are having a resurgence in popularity. With 12.6M+ views, ranking filters now exist for multiple categories like Movies and TV Show Characters, Drag Queens, Music Artists, and beyond. Each filter prompts the user with 10 slots to fill, 1 being the best, 10 being the worst, and options within the specific category are offered at random to be ranked. While these filters are meaningless to most, strong opinions held by fandoms within some categories allow some blind ranking videos to be controversial.
What brands can learn: Ranking filters provide harmless entertainment to TikTok users, while highlighting individual desires to share opinions. In the majority of these videios, we see an intensity in users to 'get it right', while lacking control over the options they're dealt. Knowing brand audiences often take to socials to share their opinions on product varieties, creating a brand-specific filter or creating content that prompts users to rank or vote said products could be highly engaging.
