Bob Dylan Core
What it is: Over 60 years ago, Bob Dylan posed for The Freewheelin Bob Dylan album cover. On the cover he's sporting a thin jacket, walking down a street hunched over and looking pensively at the ground. This album cover is so iconic, that TikTok users have created "Bob Dylan Core" which features teens reenacting the album cover. #BobDylanCore has amassed over 11.5 million views and there was even a Bob Dylan Core-themed party at Emerson College. Bob Dylan Core usually shows a man wearing any jacket that isn't warm enough aka a "Bob Dylan jacket". This trend started in January 2023 but recently started seeing popularity again on social.
What brands can learn: This wave of "core" trends is constantly flooding social feeds. Cottagecore kicked off this trend and was followed by regencycore, fairycore, gothcore, balletcore, and many other iterations of the trend. Some of these trends have themes of escapism and togetherness while others are meant to be entertaining and silly. Brands should always pay extra attention to what "core" trends are being talked about on social. There is always a way in with "core" trends and it's an easy way to connect with Gen-Z. "Core" trends allow brands to maintain relevance, increase engagement, and authentically be part of the Gen-Z conversation.
