What it is: Charli xcx told us that BRAT summer was only just beginning, and she is once again the topic of conversation thanks to a viral dance set to her song 'Apple'. Thousands of TikTokers have posted themselves doing choreography to lyrics. The song, about struggling to break free from inherited traits, is quickly becoming another huge summer reference from Charli. This echoes the similar to the iconic "I'm everywhere, I'm so Julia" BRAT lyric that was viral a few weeks ago. While the apple dance is the latest big moment from Charli, whose music and infectious energy have dominated the past few months, it won’t be the last to captivate the masses this summer.
What brands can learn: If ever there was a music era to study, it would be Charli xcx's BRAT. Alongside iconic visuals and hit songs, the apple dance is the latest in a string of moments designed to break into the mainstream consciousness. Brands embedded in culture should look to this era as the prime example of how to authentically build energy and excitement around a project. Releasing something fans can add to with their creativity is key, so give them room to interpret and build something out for your community.
