Trader Joe's Mini Totes
What it is: This week, Trader Joe's dropped its newest product— a limited edition mini tote bag. Fans have gone wild over the bag, which is a mini version of the classic one sold in stores for years. The original bag has transcended itself from just a re-usable grocery store bag to a utilitarian fashion item all in itself. The mini bag builds on this brand love and does so with a limited drop to drive more hype.
What brands can learn: Trader Joe’s is uniquely situated as a fan-favorite grocery store brand whose products (food or not) drive customer excitement. The brand tapped into that fandom in a smart way with this limited tote bag drop, helping to further that fan obsession. Notably, Trader Joe’s did not announce that the bag was available, and instead let shoppers discover it on their own. This is a great example of understanding your audience so well and giving them exactly what they want. When fans of a brand are given a consumer insights-driven product like this, the UGC advertising practically creates itself on social.
