The Portal From NYC to Dublin -- How Technology is Bringing People Together
What it is: On May 8, 2024, a massive interactive sculpture was unveiled in the Flatiron District of New York City that connects civilians to Dublin, Ireland via a "portal" livestream. The Portals project was first conceptualized by Lithuanian artists Benediktas Gylys and is famed for acting as a network of visual bridges that transcened borders, fostering connection amoung people living on different sides of the world. Since its release, civilians on both ends of the portal have been capturing and posting videos to social that demonstrate the joyfulness in human gathering and connection.

In addition, with the decline of traditional institutions that promote a sense of belonging, people are seeking new ways to connect in public spaces. In terms of what this means for brands, people are looking to put the IRL social factor into social media once more. Technology and social media have the ability to unify us, so how can we utilize these tools to facilitate public connection?
