What it is: In this trend, TikTok users have been playing around with the idea of what it means to "save the other half" of a food item for later by sharing videos of the unconventional formats they have half-eaten their foods. In early February 2024, the catchphrase was paired with the song Little Life by CORDELIA, in which TikTok users mostly showed sandwiches, bananas and other snacks split in half in unexpected ways. Since then, the trend has expanded to other social platforms in a massive endeavor to commit to the bit.
What brands can learn: This trend demonstrates the (sometimes morbid) fascination and curiosity of the wider audience with absurdist content. The beauty in absurdist content is that it subverts people's expectations of a societal norm which means the content is not aimed at a particularly niche demographic; it can resonate with many people. No matter who you are, it is fun to come together over something that subverts the norm.
