Gorpcore
What it is: Gorpcore is the newest "core" trend on social. This trend encapsulates outdoorsy style as streetwear. Gorpcore originated in the mid-2010s, but has evolved into high fashion spaces and is currently in the forefront of fashion. This style usually manifests in the rugged and active clothing such as hiking clothes, running shoes, puffer jackets, etc. Gorpcore actually stands for "Good Old Fashion Raisins and Peanuts" aka trail mix, which is a popular snack for hikers and campers. Gorpcore has been trending all year with unlikely, but successful collaborations such as Dior x Birkenstock and Reformation x Canada Goose. It's safe to say this trend will be around this fall and winter.
What brands can learn: This wave of "core" trends is constantly flooding social feeds. Cottagecore kicked off this trend and was followed by regencycore, fairycore, gothcore, balletcore, schoolcore, pearlcore, mermaidcore and many other iterations of the trend. Each of these trends had a different aesthetic, but all shared the same end goal which was a feeling of escapism and togetherness. Brands should always pay extra attention to what "core" trend is taking over social media. The "core" trends typically go viral and offers an easy way to increase engagements. During their height, cottagecore, fairycore, balletcore, etc. have all proven themselves to be key words to aggregate engagements and impressions online. Brands and social media managers should monitor the virality and relevance of gorpcore and see where their brand can insert themselves into the conversation.
