The Fancasting Battles are Among Us
What it is: Now that the SAG strike has resolved social stan wars have risen up to get their favs the work they've been missing. Film Twitter took the earliest opportunity to tap back into the biggest TV moments of last year as news of White Lotus S3 casting began. People began pointing to their favs, making broad threats against the shows health if it didn't cast their idol, and made references to other pieces of media using the cast descriptions.
What brands can learn: X is no stranger to fandom wars, both fun and serious. This specific instance speaks to the longevity of certain pop culture moments (White Lotus) and the desire of fans to associate their favs with the cultural zeitgest. This is also a bit of a nostalgia play as several users are finding actors past roles or other IP projects to connect to Mike White's work. This shows a depeer understanding of the artist as well, as White famously likes to reintroduce faded talent and give them a spotlight to show talent, as most evident with Jennifer Coolidge. Fans are more than ever seeing the creative control that writers/directors have and are pushing for their number ones to get in the room with them and give birth to a beautiful partnership.
