WNBA All-Star Weekend
What it is: This past weekend, the WNBA All-Star game took place in Phoenix, AZ. Featuring fan favorites like Angel Reese and Caitlin Clarke, this was the first WNBA All-Star game in history to sell out. Amid news of a $2.2 billion media deal, sponsors such as AT&T, American Express, Mielle, Bumble, and Aflac showed their worth in Phoenix. Brands showed up for WNBA All-Star weekend just as fans and broadcasters gravitated to a league increasingly made of superstars.
What brands can learn: Showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, investing in women's sports is imperative to be relevant and a means of showing support. Brands are taking advantage of those increased eyeballs. Many are using their WNBA partnerships — either with individual players, particular teams, or the league as a whole — as an opportunity to reach new audiences, spread brand awareness, or show the efficacy of their products. Making moves like this has become increasingly important for the longevity of brands. Gen-Z pays attention to brand partnerships and is hyper-critical about how brands show up for communities they care about. They’re diving into company values before making purchases and showing up and doing the work for communities you say you value is more vital than ever.
