Can I come over and do this/stare at you like this?
What it is: An evergreen social format has resurfaced, leaning in on yearning, overwhelming affection, and self awareness. X users are finding images, typically involving some kind of sentient being (animal, person, object that looks like it could look at you) and pairing it with the copy "can I come over and stare at you like this?". It's simple, flexible, and drives a sense of vulnerability that when you love someone so much all you want to do is stare at them, but in reality end up maybe looking a little strange and not realizing it in the moment. Users love pushing the limits of how weird they can get with the image, juxtaposing it with the wholesomeness of the question, one usually reserved for children asking if they can hang out with each other.
What brands can learn: Small relatable evergreen post concepts are still alive and well. While long-form cultural trends like popstar "eras", major sporting events, and TV/Film releases dominate the internet conversation and can feel overwhelming as everyone is looking to pile on top of each other to respond, there is something nice about a simple, wholesome evergreen format that makes you go ":)". There is still much to talk about with your brands in-between these mammoth social moments so look to these evergreen moments that are easily repeatable and flexible enough where you can find a unique and subversive way in. This trend leans in on self awareness, so if you are going to do it, make sure you own what your brand is and what they stand for. If you start seeing shares drive your KPIs (reposts, shares to story etc) you know you nailed the relatability of this format.
