A deeper dive into a subject that is impacting culture on a macro level, beyond just the social space.
THAT Halloween Costume Meme
What it is: It's spooky szn which means you're probably seeing an array of fake Spirit Halloween costumes cross your feed. The annual meme template has once again taken over social and sees people create parodies of Halloween merchandise by editing a trending subject onto a blank Spirit Halloween costume bag. All this meme takes is a photo of your subject and a short, humorous description — it's scary simple and instantly recognizable.
What brands can learn: It's almost as if Halloween is the checkpoint for cultural trends of the year. The minute something big in culture happens, conversation around it becoming a Halloween costume almost immediately follows (Hi, Barbie). Brands can take note throughout the year of things they anticipate to see showing up again in October and can use that as a north star for how they should position their content in October, and, get in on the fun themselves. Because this is the second year in a row we have seen this meme show up, expect to see it annually (much like Spirit Halloween's takeover of empty stores). This meme is an excellent one to bookmark and reference when it comes to embracing cultural moments and making it a key component of your social media strategy.
