Celebrities won't stop breaking up!
What it is: Venus retrograde hit Hollywood hard this year, paving the way for some of the most shocking A-List breakups with no regard for relationship length. With 136.3M views on TikTok, "Celebrity Breakups" continues to trend with what seems like new couples splitting weekly. While we thought couples like Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, whose divorce was announced this week, would be idolized for decades, it's clear that we can't get too attached. Before Joe and Sophie, notable breakups like Britney Spears and Sam Asghari, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez (etc.) are still driving conversation on social, with fans in uproar.
What brands can learn: While celeb breakups are nothing new, this surge in romantic independence has fans mourning couples who've become posters for 'true love'. We come to expect the most from those who gain media attention, sometimes to a fault. When Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn split after 6 years and Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied split after 11 years, it's easy to lose faith in the longevity of romance. Internet culture has long been dictated by celebrity relationships, and given birth to some of the biggest meme trends in 2023 so far. Brands should continue to monitor the climate around Hollywood relationships as it can impact the fandoms that they community manage.
