"The Tortured Poets Department"
What it is: After making history at last night’s Grammys by winning her 4th Album of the Year award, Taylor Swift announced her new album “The Tortured Poets Department.” The album is highly rumored to be about her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn and their subsequent break up after six years together. All throughout the night and early hours of the morning, Swifties took to social media to react to the announcement.
What brands can learn: Although it’s only been hours since Swift announced “The Tortured Poets Department,” the announcement has already sparked a trend. The trend is simple enough, with social users sharing photos of people that would belong in this figurative torture poets department. These are people who usually carry a melancholic and mysterious look to them and can almost always be found reading a book. Beyond this trend, expect the dark academia aesthetic to rise online even more. We’re talking handwritten letters, gothic architecture, black and white imagery, and preppy dressing.
