Just another headline: Aliens
What it is: On Wednesday, July 26, a U.S. congressional hearing took place where former military intelligence officer David Grusch informed House lawmakers that Congress is being kept in the dark about unidentified anomalous phenoma (also known as UAPS or UFOS). Grusch confirmed that the government is 'absolutely' in possession of UAPs and that 'nonhuman biologics' were found at crash sites. While alien and UFO activity has been a hot topic for sometime, social users have been reacting to this news like they would any other headline: cracking jokes about it or not caring at all.
What brands can learn: Living in the digital age, with brands, influencers, news outlets, and everyone in between posting about everything all the time, people are experiencing media overload. Whether it be a news tragedy or a hot topic of debate such as UFOs, people are fatigued from over processing information. With this in mind, it is important to be cognizant of how we launch brand news, product launches, and ad overload, as these efforts can be perceived negatively when they take up too much of the media landscape. Sometimes less is more!
