In Our Coquette Era
What it is: The terms “feminine energy” and “soft girl era” are no strangers to the internet. More and more women and femme-presenting individuals have been embracing all things girly IRL and online. These trends are not new but they do keep evolving into new versions of themselves, the most recent being “coquette”. Think of this latest trend as the baby of femininity and princess aesthetics. It is all about things that are dainty, antique, frilly, and hyper-soft.
What brands can learn: For brands who want to jump into their coquette era, here are two possible ways to do so 1) The pink bow emoji is being used to represent all things coquette and this has translated to real life as well. People are using pink ribbons to tie bows around some of their most aesthetically pleasing possessions, like makeup and even hair. 2) In typical internet fashion, some users are taking this new coquette aesthetic as an opportunity to give it a humorous twist. Just as much hyper-soft content there is under the coquette hashtag, you’ll also see comedic takes of people tying bows around items that juxtapose the entire trend. Items like medications, fried foods, and even sanitary pads are being utilized to mix coquette with the actual realities of life.
