Pookie

What it is: "Pookie," a term of endearment that describes something cute, is the latest pet name being used by Gen Z on TikTok and beyond. The word is similar to other nicknames like "sweetheart" and "honey" and is commonly used to express affection towards friends, celebrities, or even objects. Not exactly a new word, pookie has recently flourished on social because of its infectious ability to convey deep feelings in a super casual and playful way.
What brands can learn: Gen Z's tendency to unironically embrace seemingly cringey language won't stop with pookie and should be viewed as an opportunity to learn more about how young fans and followers speak online. Even if pookie isn't a term your brand will be using anytime soon, generally tapping into fans' love language slang will make your brand sound more familiar to them. So the next time followers flood your comment sections with "pookie," "pookie wookie," or "pookie bear," don't be alarmed. They just love you!
