TikTok Users Are Tired of Late-Night Concerts
What it is: Concertgoers are taking to social to raise questions around the late start times of live events, and in true Gen Z fashion - young fans are contemplating whether this long-standing, unspoken tradition requires reevaluation. The bulk of concerts or performances start around 7 or 8 p.m. local time. Often, these events include a pre-show or opening act, causing a delay in the main performer's start time. Billboard recently conducted an in-depth exploration into the causes behind the delayed time of concerts, revealing that event venues often hold the view that prolonging the show results in higher alcohol sales. Live music has had a major social moment in 2023 - with fans sharing video, outfit inspo, and ticket frustration over massive acts like Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour. There’s no doubt that concertmania has consumed pop culture, fashion, and FYPs across different demographics and fanbases this year - making this conversation top-of-mind for consumers. Fans are now taking to TikTok to share their strategy of arriving at concerts just before the scheduled start time, hoping to secure last-minute tickets. Despite these explanations, many fans remain dissatisfied with the delays and are letting their opinions be heard on social.
What brands can learn: Social has become a spot for consumers to challenge unspoken norms and propose solutions to the greater masses! Brands should tap into social listening to understand consumers’ feedback and conversation that wouldn’t necessarily be picked up elsewhere. Utilize community management and social data to learn more about your audience, the conversations they’re having but aren’t necessarily bringing directly to your brand, and turn those into fuel to do better.
