What It Is: Across social media a breed of new content creators have started taking over the fyp, our pets - at least that’s how it started. In the latest trend storming across our feeds users are posting front facing camera footage with text overlaid stating an opinion. The camera then “accidentally” flips to reveal the user behind the message resulting in a comical video in which it is revealed to the viewer that the video was actually posted to advocate for the creator themselves, and not others. It began with videos of dogs spreading the news that “we need to feed our dogs twice an hour”, but has continued to evolve with siblings and partners finding this trend a funny and unique way to speak their truths.
Brand Takeaway: This trend is the latest in a long lineage of users sharing their truths in unique or amusing executions. Social media is a place to share your opinions, however if you were to just state them how would they stand out? By adding the aspect of a surprise reveal users have not only found a way to make otherwise boring opinions about dog food funny, but also broken the fourth wall - speaking directly to their audience in a personal “am I right guys” kind of way. This trend could be a great resource for brands trying to learn more about their audience, their habits, and what exactly it is that they want in their lives, or to break the fourth wall in a fun and playful way.
