Hoodies That Hoodie
What It Is: Gap’s first creator collaboration debuted with TikTok influencer Julia Huynh, who posted a TikTok last October announcing a quest for a “hoodie that hoodies.” This engaging series of videos followed her journey to find the ultimate hoodie, quickly going viral thanks to our shared passion for hoodies. Throughout the series, Huynh showcased and analyzed her personal collection, capturing the attention of viewers everywhere. Her criteria were straightforward: Is it comfy? Does the texture appeal to what people want? Can she feel like she could live in this hoodie? However, Gap noticed they were absent from the conversation. They reached out to her via DM, inviting her to come to their NYC HQ to co-create the perfect hoodie with a staple fit and feel. This partnership led to the creation a new item for their 2025 fall collection.
Brand Takeaway: Creating capsule collections and partnering with influencers has been a trend since the late 2010s, but inviting an influencer directly to your studio to co-create something for their audience is a fresh approach. Gap may not have been part of the initial conversation, but they actively monitored Julia's content series and engaged with the feedback from her and her fans. Instead of simply sending one of their existing hoodies to her for a review, attaching an influencer's name to a collection or launching yet another collaboration, Gap went above and beyond by genuinely joining the dialogue and partnering with Julia to co-design a piece. By engaging in two-way conversation, brands can listen and collaborate on products that truly resonate with their audience, making them worthy of going viral.
