Let’s Flip The Script
What It Is: “What’s up chat? Brat summer may be over but don’t worry, you can always rizz and mew your way into a new era of slay.” is a sentence that reads like it’s been written in another language. A barrage of new trends, slang, and terms, you’d wholeheartedly expect to hear these words come out of the mouth of an 8 year old. However, thanks to one of TikTok’s newest trends you may open the app to be greeted by your local museum's 70 year old curator saying exactly that. In a craze that’s been labeled “Letting Gen Z write the marketing script” local brands and stores have begun flipping the script, literally, letting their Gen Z employees write scripts for their work compatriots of older generations, heeding hilarious results as we’re shown around through the eyes of a 70 year old, but the mouth of a 21 year old.
Brand Takeaway: These videos are a great example of how to adapt to what’s trending and subvert the norms or expectations. While a random car dealership may think that they have no place dipping their toes into a trend like Brat summer, that’s actually where we see the most success on social media; people love the unexpected and the unexplainable. The Gen Z marketing script trend specifically has subverted the norm as they not only allow, but invite, the older generations to participate in current pop culture. While in the mind of younger generations slang used to die when used by their parents, it’s now funnier than ever and raking in millions upon millions of views.
