Creators Are the New Confidants
What It Is: Creators are the advice columnists of our generation. They’ve built trusted platforms around their experiences, hobbies, and obsessions—earning credibility in areas like dating, wellness, and early adulthood. By sharing personal stories and the lessons they’ve learned, these creators have become “soft experts,” building online communities rooted in authenticity and trust. Their fans turn to them not just for insight, but because they deeply relate to the creators’ experiences. This connection keeps the audience coming back.
Take Eli Rallo, for example. Her honest takes on dating, friendship, and navigating early adulthood resonate deeply with women in their 20s. By openly sharing her growth and experiences, she built a loyal following—eventually leading to a book deal. Her success shows how personal storytelling and community can turn lived experience into real influence.
Brand Takeaway: As brands, we want to humanize our platforms so we can connect with our audience and build brand loyalty. However, when entering new cultural or community spaces, brands must be cautious to speak with, not at, the audience. Rather than trying to “own” a space that isn’t ours, it’s often more powerful to amplify or elevate credible voices who already belong there. By partnering with all types of creators—not just influencers—who have the lived experiences and deep insight that align with the space, creators can enhance the brand’s authenticity and trust within their audience. These creators have earned this credibility and trust, while brands typically have to borrow it. Sometimes, the most strategic move is to step back and amplify the right voices to lead the conversation, not try to dominate them.
