Axe’s Viral Rebrand

What It Is: Axe has launched a limited-edition body spray can designed by TikTok creator Emily Zugay, known for her satirical and intentionally “bad” graphic design. The collaboration began when Zugay posted a mock redesign of the Axe logo, which quickly went viral, amassing over 5 million views. In response, Axe embraced the meme culture, produced the can with Zugay’s design, a minimalist white can featuring a clipart-style axe, and appointed her as their “Big Boss,” a playful title that added to the campaign’s authenticity. The product is available for purchase on Walmart’s website.
Brand Takeaway: By transforming Zugay’s satirical redesign into a real product, Axe challenged consumers to rethink branding in the age of social media. But the real breakthrough was in how the brand and creator redefined collaboration; not as a feature drop, but as a shared creative process. When brands empower partners to shape the product, the story, and the strategy, they unlock moments that feel personal, culturally relevant, and deeply resonant with both the creator’s audience and their unique point of view.
